A literary evening and launch of Aviv Zemer’s seventh poetry book at the Goren Goldstein Country Club in Tel Aviv–Yafo. Theater, poetry readings, and music.
Aviv Zemer Returns to the Stage
This time, with his seventh poetry book.
What happens to an Israeli man when he turns fifty and discovers that the life he thought he would have can no longer be taken for granted?
His bachelorhood stretches on. His parents grow older. The need for love and children suddenly becomes more urgent. Regrets find a voice. The war outside encounters the wars within.
In his seventh poetry book, Aviv Zemer enters the places where a man of our time does not always allow himself to look. This is a book about love and its absence, about the desire to become a father and the fear that there will be no opportunity, about parents gradually approaching the end of their lives, about generational gaps, memories, regret, and time that waits for no one.
But above all, it is a book about Israeli male identity at the age of fifty—about a man trying to understand what remains of him after society’s masks, roles, and expectations begin to peel away.
As in his previous work, Zemer is not afraid to expose himself here. The actor in him encounters the poet in him, and the stage becomes a page: one man stands before the audience and before himself, trying to determine whether it is still possible to love, build a home, become a father, repair what was not repaired—and begin again.
Aviv Zemer, actor, director, producer, and poet, has been active in the Israeli theater world for more than two decades. He has worked at the Cameri Theatre, Beersheba Theatre, Tzavta, and the Alleyway Theatre, and has six poetry books to his name.
Now, in his seventh book, he returns to the place where it all began—to himself.
The launch evening will be a meeting between poetry and theater, between the written word and the spoken word, and between the lives as we tell them to ourselves and the lives as they truly are.
