The performance "51/49 | Premiere" is a creation by Mami Shimazaki that explores questions of identity and belonging after loss. The show combines dance, performance, and video to examine the distance and proximity between Israel and Japan. The process portrays identity not as a fixed state, but as a continuous change.
Additional details about the creation of Mami Shimazaki: On October 7th, I lost the mother of a close friend. Confronted with loss and heartbreak, I traveled to Japan, my homeland, to revisit the questions that have accompanied me all my life: What is home, what is belonging, and to what extent am I still Japanese. Through body and movement, family memories and personal experiences, the work moves between Israel and Japan, between closeness and distance, examining identity not as a fixed state but as an ongoing process of change and balance. A dance and performance show incorporating video that explores questions of identity and foreignness.
