The Mythical Mountain Like You've Never Known Before!
Masada Challenge is only available by advance booking and payment. You cannot enter without a pre-paid reservation for the activity.
The Masada Challenge is a new and unique route. It allows a safe exit outside the walls of Masada and a visit to hidden archaeological complexes that until now were inaccessible due to their challenging location. To make these complexes accessible, we created a challenging walking trail on the cliff edge of Masada, using ladders and handholds, with walkers harnessed (and wearing a helmet) to a safety cable along its entire length.
Throughout the trail, you can enjoy a stunning view that begins in the Judean Desert and ends facing the Dead Sea.
Entry and walking on the route are by prior arrangement and payment only. The trail is suitable for experienced hikers and children over the age of 10. The path is located in the southern part of the mountain plateau, and you need to walk to the southernmost edge of the mountain plateau - to the southern fortress.
Important information before making a reservation (we ask you to read everything!):
Walking on the trail is only in closed shoes. Arriving in sandals will not allow walking on the path, and a refund will not be given for arriving in sandals.
Access to the trail is possible via the Ramp Trail (a 40-minute walk from the entrance to the challenge), the Snake Path (about an hour and a half walk from the entrance to the challenge), or via the cable car - a 5-minute ride and a quarter-hour walk to the southern mountain plateau - starting the path.
You must plan your arrival in advance. We recommend booking in advance for the cable car or the trail you choose to arrive from.
The payment for the Masada Challenge is in addition to the entrance and cable car fees.
You must arrive with the tickets you purchased and present them on your mobile phone (barcode for scanning).
Before walking the trail, you will receive detailed instructions, but in the meantime, we recommend watching the explanation of the trail in the short video by clicking here.
On the trail, you will receive safety equipment - a harness and helmet (you cannot bring your equipment from home). The equipment must be returned at the end of the route and no later than 15 minutes after finishing the route. Failure to return the equipment will result in a fine of 500 NIS.
We request you plan to arrive at the trail 15 minutes before the scheduled activity to enjoy the view. And if you've already reached the summit, won't you stay to watch the night show "Masada from Sunset to Sunrise"? End your day by staying overnight at the Masada West Night Camp...
The challenge is open for bookings on weekends and holidays; check the reservation system for available dates. You can also book the challenge for groups on other days by prior arrangement; details and requests can be sent to masadaevents@npa.org.il.
When: Fridays and Saturdays in July and August from 7:00-11:00.
Walking on the trail is allowed according to the following safety instructions: Click here.
Please read the safety instructions thoroughly before booking.
