Guided tour of Mount Gerizim in honor of "Mount Gerizim Shabbat," where we will learn about the history and biblical significance of the area and enjoy views of the Samaria mountains. The tour will be conducted by Ilan Cohen from the Nature and Parks Authority.
In honor of "Shabbat Har Gerizim," during which we read the Torah portion Re'eh and the verse: "And you shall place the blessing on Mount Gerizim" (Deuteronomy 11:29), we will embark on a guided tour of Mount Gerizim, one of the unique and fascinating sites in Samaria.
During the tour, we will explore the historical and biblical story of the mountain and discuss the ceremony of blessing and curse that took place with the entrance of the Israelites into the land right here. From the summit of the mountain, we will view the magnificent landscape of the Samarian hills, attempt to identify the locations associated with the event that occurred between Mount Gerizim and Mount Ebal to the north, and understand how the memory of this pivotal event has been preserved in various traditions, landscapes, and surrounding sites up to the present day.
The tour will be led by Ilan Cohen, heritage manager, Judea and Samaria district, Israel Nature and Parks Authority.
When: Friday, 24th of Av (August 7, 2026) at 11:00 AM.
