The Saint Petersburg State Academic Ballet Theatre of Boris Eifman presents a new production of "Red Giselle" in Israel.
The premiere of the new version of the ballet "Red Giselle" took place on August 26, 2025. "Red Giselle" tells the story of the fate of the Russian ballerina Olga Spessivtseva.
Nearly three decades after the premiere, Eifman "recomposed" "Red Giselle," significantly altering its choreographic score. The artistic design of the famous production has also been improved, in its modernized form vividly reflecting the expressive possibilities of contemporary stage art.
Boris Eifman is celebrating his 80th birthday this year. The theater he founded in 1977 in Leningrad has existed for almost half a century—and throughout all these years, it remains his personal project in the literal sense: Eifman independently stages, works with the troupe, and reworks old performances. This is a rarity in the world of academic ballet.
