“Here comes a new immigrant from Ethiopia”—these are the first words Meskrem hears at her new school. She turns around to see who they are talking about. She never imagined that the call was directed at her.
Meskrem, an 11-year-old Israeli-born girl who moves from Katzrin to the big city, eagerly looks forward to her first day at the new school. She hopes to fit in quickly and make friends, but the prejudices and hurtful remarks she encounters immediately upon her arrival make it clear that it will not be easy.
Hurt, Meskrem does not give up and fights for her right to belong.
This is a story about truth and lies, embrace and rejection, identity and repression.
