About Our Speaker: Yair Lapid
MK Yair Lapid is a former Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and Finance Minister
of Israel. He is currently the Chairman of the Yesh Atid Party, serving today as
a Member of Knesset and the Leader of the Opposition.
In 2012, MK Lapid announced his entry into politics, founding the Yesh Atid
party. In the 2013 elections, Yesh Atid won 19 Knesset seats, making it the
second-largest party. MK Lapid served as Minister of Finance and was a member of
the Security Cabinet during the 2014 Gaza conflict, Operation Protective Edge.
On May 5, 2021, MK Lapid was tasked with forming a government, successfully
doing so in June. He became Minister of Foreign Affairs and Alternate Prime
Minister in the newly sworn-in government.
Before entering politics, MK Lapid was a well-known journalist, TV presenter,
playwright, musician, and author, publishing 12 best-selling books, including
Memories After My Death, a biography of his father. He also wrote a widely-read
newspaper column and hosted award-winning TV programs.
Born in Tel Aviv in 1963, Lapid is married to Lihi and has three children: Yoav,
Lior, and Yael.
