Magical Mystery Tour — a psychedelic project by The Beatles, created in 1967. Its foundation was Paul McCartney’s idea to gather a group of eccentric people, put them on a bus, and send them on an improvised journey through England.
The film suffered a crushing failure with audiences and critics, yet the album released shortly after followed a completely different path. It became a massive success and is today rightfully considered one of the pinnacles of The Beatles' psychedelic period.
Among the most famous tracks from the album are The Fool on the Hill, I Am the Walrus, Strawberry Fields Forever, Penny Lane, and All You Need Is Love — the famous anthem of peace, which became one of the group's most recognizable songs.
While working on this album, the musicians pushed the boundaries of studio recording — both technically and artistically. Here they first applied the technique of "sound collage," combining radio fragments, musical recordings, and spoken speech with the main musical material. They experimented with unusual microphone placement to achieve intentional vocal distortion, were the first to use samples and the Mellotron synthesizer, and innovatively edited magnetic tapes, selecting the best musical episodes. These decisions made the album one of the starting points of musical pop art, based on the creative reinterpretation of existing material.
