The stunning charcoal and graphite drawings of Ilana Dotan (b. 1967), winner of the Chaim Schiff Prize for Figurative-Realist Art (2025), are crafted in a magical, photographic realism. With perfect technical control, she conveys the texture, materiality, and transparency of cheap, mass-produced objects from the domestic environment. Dotan transforms the 17th-century "still life" tradition into an engagement with contemporary packaging materials, which on their margins symbolize a fast-paced, distracted consumer culture.
