Philologist and literary scholar Leonid Klein will deliver a lecture on Gogol's poem "Dead Souls," exploring its humor, imagery, and multilayered content. The speaker will examine the mystical, satirical, and ironic aspects of the work. Admission to the event is paid; tickets must be purchased in advance by phone.
The plot of Gogol’s poem Dead Souls is well known to us. But the plot is far from everything. There is also humor that has not aged over nearly two hundred years; an imagery that could compete with any Harms; a mesmerizing rhythm of language. And, of course, multi-layered content: mystical, satirical, "nationalist," ironic... A crazy literary cocktail—Gogol-mogol—in a lecture by philologist and literary scholar Leonid Klein.
