Lecture on the Importance and Challenges of Asking for Help, led by Sigalit Karni. Held at the Darehi Community Center, it includes topics such as dependence and independence, and the values of asking for and giving help.
I Can Do Everything... And Yet
Asking for help is one of the hardest things for people. The ability to ask for help is important not only in extreme moments of danger or fear of death, but also for our daily lives, our mental growth, and sometimes even for our psychological survival. "We all need grace, we all need touch," wrote Nathan Zach, but many find it difficult to ask for it, especially in the current age dominated by the myth of the individualist person, whose internal mantra is "I don't need anyone, I am independent."
Many prefer to give rather than ask or receive, perhaps because asking for help worsens their sense of dependence and is perceived as a weakness or flaw. It is of course desirable and almost essential for us to properly activate and develop our "help-seeking muscle," not just when disaster is at our doorstep.
In the upcoming lecture with Sigalit Karni, a lecturer, group facilitator, and family companion for the elderly, we will hear about asking for and receiving help. We will ask ourselves what burdens us when asking for help and what influences our willingness to ask for it. We will also examine the value aspect of giving and receiving help. We will check how, from whom, and when it will be appropriate for us to ask for help.
