Price: 1,850 ILS for Tel Aviv-Yafo residents / 2,150 ILS for non-residents
A six-session course providing the essential foundations for professional framing. Throughout the course, you will learn about materials, techniques, and display methods to optimally preserve the artwork. You will be guided step-by-step on how to properly handle the artwork, mainly focused on paper and also on canvas, from the initial stage to the frame. Attendees will become acquainted with framing tools, learn which materials are suitable, where to source them, how to calculate the required amount of wood, customize a frame, and give it a refined finish. Participants will complete the course with a framed artwork in museum standards. The course combines theory and practical exercises throughout all sessions, offering practical tools for continued independent work. * All required materials are included in the course fee (glass, adhesives, connectors, varnish, acid-free paper, etc.), except for the frame profiles, which participants will purchase during the course at a cost of approximately 120 ILS per participant. The price depends on the choice of profile type, wood type, frame type, and size.
Requirements:
* Bring an existing artwork up to A4 size for framing. Artwork on paper, plywood, or canvas is mandatory for the first lesson!
* The course is suitable for professional creators who wish to acquire framing techniques for application to their work.
* Completion of a safety instruction for working in the "Da Vinci Culture" wood workshop in Tel Aviv before/during the course, for the benefit of continued independent work in the workshop.
Syllabus:
**First Session: Introduction and Frame Selection**
- Introduction to the participants
- Presentation of each participant's work
- Discussion and selection of the appropriate framing style for each artwork
**Second Session: Adhesion Techniques and Material Planning**
- Learning methods for adhering the artwork to the backing
- Calculating the required amount of wood according to the frame selection
**Third Session: Supplier Tour and Material Purchase**
- Outside tour from the "Culture Cell"
- Acquaintance with suppliers in the framing field
- Purchase of profiles and additional materials for work
**Fourth Session: Safety and Beginning of Practical Work**
- Safety instruction in working with carpentry tools
- Sanding, cutting, and adhering frame parts
**Fifth Session: Frame Finishing and Assembly**
- Painting the frame
- Preparation and insertion of artworks into the frame
**Sixth Session: Frame Finishing and Assembly**
- Frame painting and conclusion
