Ten years ago, we discovered a space in the center of Jerusalem with an exceptional acoustic wonder and sound that made us fall in love from the first note - the Clal Building. This iconic architectural monument in the heart of the city has become one of our most central and essential venues. Even during a global pandemic and multiple-front wars, we did everything to maintain a big and festive concert every year in this marvelous place.
Almost without noticing, years have passed, and we have recorded an astonishing line of concerts in large ensembles, performing with choirs and soloists who created moments we deeply cherish. When considering how to mark the decade concert in the building, we knew it had to be a particularly monumental piece - and what piece could be more fitting than Beethoven's Fifth Symphony?
The evening will begin with the first piece ever performed in the building - Felix Mendelssohn's "The Hebrides" (Fingal's Cave) Overture, followed by the virtuosity of Strauss's Horn Concerto No. 1, featuring the exceptional horn player Bar Zemach (coming from abroad especially for the concert), and will conclude with Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. We promise to do everything to blow the roof off Clal Building. To honor Jerusalem Day, which falls during the concert week, we'll cap the concert with the song "Jerusalem of Gold," with Bar Zemach playing the melody on a shofar (!) accompanied by the orchestra.
Due to limited seating capacity in the building, only some seats will be available; the rest will be on the spiral railing and stairs. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. To allow everyone to attend the concert, tickets are sold on a "pay-what-you-can" basis, trusting you.
