An exhibition depicting life in mobile structures that were created as a quick solution to the housing crisis during the 1990s following the massive immigration from the Soviet Union and Ethiopia. The exhibition is displayed at the Haifa City Museum.
The 1990s were intense years marked by massive immigration from the former Soviet Union and Ethiopia, an influx that altered Israeli reality. As a quick solution to the housing shortage that emerged in the country, caravan sites were established as temporary residential neighborhoods to accommodate the immigrants. Close to 30,000 caravans were set up in various places around the country, including in Haifa, turning into immigrant neighborhoods. These neighborhoods and the new lives that were built in them, often under challenging circumstances, represent an important chapter in the history of Israel and the history of Haifa.
