The story unfolds in the harsh yet naive final years of the 20th century in Haifa's Adar neighborhood—a place buffeted by winds of nature and change, under the scorching sun and relentless rains. However, the novel’s characters are close and relatable to us not merely because they are navigating their first years in a new country.
Love and betrayal, life and death, mercy and forgiveness transcend time and place.
As readers, we find ourselves face-to-face with a benevolent doctor who tells us:
