The Sapphires is the true, fascinating, and moving story of a group of Aboriginal girls who, against all expectations, became a sensation in the music world in the late 1960s.

Alongside their story, the film reveals the face of white Australia in the 1950s and 1960s, as well as historical events that Australians tried to obscure for many years.

The film, directed by Australian-Aboriginal filmmaker Wayne Blair, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. At the Palm Springs International Film Festival, it won the Audience Award, and in Australia it became a major hit, winning 11 awards at the local Oscars ceremony.
