A fresh look at two of the most intriguing figures in the Book of Esther—Vashti and Esther—through a feminist reading of the scroll.
The lecture will examine how each of them dealt with the royal command and how Esther managed to sway Ahasuerus’s heart. We will glimpse the Persian palace, the customs, drinking vessels, and clothing of the period, and attempt to reconstruct the world in which the scroll took place.
The lecture combines art, literature, history, and archaeology, offering a multidisciplinary perspective on the Book of Esther and its characters.
