We will explore how the image of the president has changed—from the unifying leader and “father of the nation” to a complex and controversial figure—and how American cinema has reflected the cultural shift in attitudes toward the presidency.
Scenes from the films Lincoln, The Birth of a Nation, Hot Springs, The Intern, and others will be shown, illustrating the intersection of history, politics, and cinema.
