Everyone knows the legendary fish shop of the funny Albert from Ashdod’s Aleph Quarter.
All his life, he dreamed of telling stories and jokes, but his father, Morris, wouldn’t allow it: “This is a fish shop, Albert, not a barbershop. In a barbershop, people tell stories.”
He thought he would never get the chance to go onstage, but this afternoon, when a performance at the neighborhood theater festival in Ashdod was canceled, a good friend begged him to come urgently and perform in his place.
Albert, who had just gotten off the boat with his fishing rod still in his hand, received the opportunity he had waited for all his life—this time, it was really happening.
Albert opens a beach chair, pours the audience shots of arak, and captivates them with stories about people who lived in the past—a fascinating human mosaic telling the story of Ashdod from the 1960s to the present day.
He creates unexpected moments and bursts of uncontrollable laughter, and in the end sends everyone home with a smile on their faces.
