1984

“1984” is a large-scale multimedia musical inspired by George Orwell’s iconic dystopian novel. The libretto is based on poems by Vera Polozkova and music by Alexander Krasovitsky.

Today’s Big Brother is no longer limited to surveillance through hidden cameras. Now he enters every home through screens, transforming into a reality-show star and replacing reality with his own rules.

The musical “1984” is not a simple retelling of the original novel, but a contemporary musical work about fear, freedom, memory and, above all, love. At the heart of the story is the relationship between two lovers trying to preserve their feelings in a world where love is considered a system error.

When language loses its meaning and the truth is rewritten in real time, the protagonists begin to sing in order to express themselves.

The script and performances are created by outstanding artists. Vera Polozkova contributed the poems that became the musical’s poetic foundation, reflecting the struggle for inner freedom. Alexander Krasovitsky wrote the music, combining the energy of major rock concerts with the intimacy of chamber music, and making it the inner voice of the protagonist.

In the musical “1984,” Alexander Krasovitsky plays Winston Smith, Teona Dolnikova plays Julia, Yevgeny Pronin plays the Television Host, and Vladimir Daraganov plays Parsons. Each brings a unique quality to their character.

The set design by Nina Kobiashvili and the video design by Ilya Delyatitsky create a unique visual space on stage, where light, screens and the dynamics of the actors’ performances merge into a single whole, blurring the boundaries between reality and illusion.
