Haydn - Mandolin Concerto in C Major (Reconstruction by Alon Sariel)

The mandolin, usually associated with folk or chamber music, is given full solo status here. It is an intriguing blend of classical sophistication and bright elegance, giving the mandolin a rare moment in the spotlight. Haydn, a central figure in the shaping of the classical style, wrote the piece in the late 18th century. It is composed of three movements: a lively and dynamic opening movement showcasing the mandolin’s delicate and pure virtuosity; a slow and lyrical middle movement highlighting the instrument’s ability to sing with a soft and moving melodic line; and a rhythmic and cheerful concluding movement combining lightness with harmonic sophistication.

A captivating musical celebration of rhythm and passion in a work composed and arranged by Brahms between the years 1869 – 1880.
