The "Nikitskiye Vorota" Theater by Mark Rozovsky will present in Israel for the first time one of its most vibrant, beloved, and audience-favorite performances – the musical satirical comedy "Wedding" based on the works of Mikhail Zoshchenko.

Sparkling like champagne bubbles, light and intoxicating like young wine, yet filled with precise and wise satire – "Wedding" turns an ordinary theatrical evening into a whirlwind of laughter and music.

At the heart of the plot is an incredible, almost anecdotal story:

A young man loses his bride right at his own wedding.

From this moment begins a series of absurd, comical, and completely unpredictable events, where the characters – with all their weaknesses, ambitions, and little human subtle tricks – find themselves at the center of a tumultuous wedding commotion.

However, recounting the plot of "Wedding" is thankless because the most important thing here is the atmosphere.

The performance captivates the audience literally from the first moments when the actors burst into the hall with dances and songs. At some point, it begins to seem that the boundary between the stage and the audience disappears. Spectators laugh, sing along, dance in their seats, reacting to what's happening as if they themselves are among the guests at this incredible wedding.

This is why every performance of "Wedding" turns into a lively, energetic, and completely unique event.

Director Mark Rozovsky, founder and artistic director of the "Nikitskiye Vorota" Theater, is known for his rare ability to combine literary classics with a bright theatrical form. In this production, he works in the aesthetic of grotesque and musical theater, partly echoing the traditions of the great Vsevolod Meyerhold, where each scene transforms into a separate little performance – a musical "zong."

Famous tunes of that era sound on stage – "At the Samovar," "Lemonchi," "Date," and other popular hits. Performed by actors with incredible energy and humor, they repeatedly elicit a storm of applause.

A special charm is added to the play by live music – musicians are right on stage and become part of the action, creating the atmosphere of a real wedding.

A separate pleasure is the large ensemble cast. It's one of those rare occasions where literally every character is memorable.

It's hard to say if Zoshchenko intended Jewish roots for his characters, but as the play progresses, it feels like the clever Rozovsky seasoned his version of "Wedding" with such a Jewish zest that it resulted in a rather elaborate, very spectacular, and unrealistically delicious theatrical Jewish "forshmak."

Viewers note that this production has a special tone – warm, ironic, a bit cheeky. It's as if the classic text of Zoshchenko is spiced with a light cultural "spice," making it even more lively, modern, and close to the viewer.

"Wedding" lasts 1 hour and 40 minutes, but during this time, the audience manages to live through a whole story – noisy, absurd, touching, and incredibly fun.
