It was supposed to be a pleasant, convivial Parisian evening at home with family and friends.

Elisabeth has prepared a special meal for everyone’s enjoyment: Pierre, her husband, a literature professor; Vincent, her brother, who has finally found the woman of his dreams, Anna, and is soon to become a father; and their best friend, Claude, a trombone player.

Hovering over them all is the loving shadow of the family matriarch, who lives far away in the countryside and surrounds them with love and generosity.

Except that the evening takes a completely different turn—and none of those present will ever forget it.

It begins with a game hosted by Vincent, the father-to-be, in which everyone is asked to guess the first name he has chosen for the baby on the way.

A witty and surprising play.

The play is currently enjoying tremendous success in Paris and has also been adapted into a film. Its two authors are among France’s leading satirists, regularly writing for French television.
