“Together, You and I Will Change the World”

Lecturer: Hagit Peleg Rotem, co-editor of Portfolio magazine, is a journalist and expert in contemporary culture and art. Hagit lectures in various settings and leads art and culture tours in Israel and abroad.

Yael Bartana and Anne Imhof—two of the leading and most influential artists in the world today—depict in their works, each in her own way, an alternative reality of rupture and change, from personal, female, and queer perspectives. Both represented Germany at the Venice Biennale (Yael in 2024 and Anne in 2017), and both exhibit in major museums around the world.

Yael, an Israeli artist who lives in Berlin, creates monumental-scale cinematic art. Her works encompass personal and political stories inspired by science fiction and pioneering narratives, Holocaust memory, and the Israeli ethos. Anne Imhof primarily creates dance performances and transient, charged, and fascinating situations, in collaboration with young, beautiful, and alienated dancers.

In the lecture, we will become acquainted with their worlds, discover shared as well as dividing threads, and be moved by their works and stories.
