Little Joe has no toys or fine clothes, but he has Lassie—his best friend and also the most beautiful and intelligent dog in Greenall Bridge. All the village residents are amazed by Lassie and the tricks she performs. She soon catches the attention of the wealthy Duke of Darling, who decides to buy her from Joe’s impoverished family and add her to his collection of dogs at the castle.
When Joe discovers that Haines, the duke’s cruel dog handler, intends to take Lassie to Scotland for training, he decides to break into the duke’s castle and rescue her. But the attempt fails, and Joe and his beloved dog find themselves trapped in the car’s trunk on their way to Scotland, together with Max, the duke’s cowardly and spoiled grandson.
Halfway there, Joe outwits the dog handler, and the three escape from the vehicle. Now they are stranded in the middle of nowhere, far from home, and must find a way back to the village without being caught. Their long journey home is filled with adventures and dangers, but throughout the journey Lassie’s intelligence saves both boys from trouble.
Little by little, Joe and Max go from enemies to true friends—but will they manage to return home? And will they succeed in rescuing Lassie from the evil dog handler?
An original and captivating adaptation of the classic story about the most famous dog in the world.
