The ballet "Sleeping Beauty" is considered an encyclopedia of classical dance. This magical story, based on a fairy tale by Charles Perrault, has been on the stages of leading world theaters for over a century since its triumphant historic premiere staged by Marius Petipa in 1890 at the Mariinsky Theatre.

The Russian Ballet Theatre presents the ballet Sleeping Beauty, staged and revised by the People's Artist of the USSR Vyacheslav Gordeev, based on the libretto by Ivan Vsevolozhsky and Marius Petipa. For this work, Gordeev was awarded the prize of the Association of Western European impresarios "For the Most Grandiose Production of 2000".

A legend of Russian ballet, Vyacheslav Gordeev, an outstanding Russian dancer, a premier of the Bolshoi Theatre, who dedicated his entire life to the art of ballet, demonstrated his talent also as a choreographer. Gordeev as a choreographer has earned respect and sympathy from foreign ballet critics. In 1992, after triumphant theater tours in Europe, Gordeev was awarded the title of "Best Choreographer of the Year," and later received a special prize from Maurice Béjart.
The State Theatre Russian Ballet holds its unique, dignified place in the world of ballet. Among foreign and Russian ballet lovers, this ensemble enjoys well-deserved popularity – on par with the Bolshoi Theatre and Mariinsky Theatre.
