Natan Alterman is considered one of the greatest Hebrew poets of all time. His rich body of work includes countless topical poems, lyric poetry, magnificent narrative poems, plays, translations, children’s songs, and popular songs.
In 1938, at the age of 28, Alterman published his debut collection, Stars Outside, a book that stunned the country’s literary community with its brilliance and innovation.
In this fascinating lecture, we will delve into his poems, listen to several musical settings of his works, explore the course of his life—which was closely connected to the history of the State of Israel—and celebrate together one of the high points of Hebrew poetry.
About the Lecturer
Dr. Avi Alon is a researcher and lecturer on Hebrew and world poetry. He appears on Galatz and Radio 103FM, where he hosts a regular segment about the stories behind the great songs. He is the founder of the Facebook group “Into the Song,” which has more than 20,000 readers.
