On October 7th, amidst hours of chaos, fear, and uncertainty, a house in the village of Shuva became a place where a new human family was built. Dr. Gidalia Fendel treated the wounded and those fleeing who arrived from the area, while his wife and children opened the door to dozens of others—children, a pregnant woman, an elderly couple, and families who fled for their lives. Among those who found refuge in the house were the two siblings of Avigail Idan, after their parents were murdered and they hid for hours in a closet at their home.
From these unimaginable moments of fear and loss, an extraordinary story of compassion, courage, resilience, and hope was woven within the home. It tells of how complete strangers became, within one day, a family.
