Having survived the horrors of Auschwitz, Peter Singer arrives in London as an impoverished refugee. He decides to cling to life, erase the past, and rebuild himself anew. Gradually, Singer manages to establish a thriving real estate empire; women fall under the charm of his personality, and the doors of England's high society open up to him. But when it is revealed that his path to the top was paved at the cost of humiliating and exploiting his tenants, the empire he created finds itself on the verge of collapse.
