The pianist, composer, and arranger Nitzan Kolko, who resides and works in New York, is coming for a special visit to Israel. Kolko, active in the New York jazz scene and performing in clubs and venues including Ornithology, Apollo Theater, and Wilson Live, will present at Shablul with his trio: Gon Shani (bass) and Gabriel Bar-Cohen (drums) - one of the first performances in Israel of the new material from the album "Stories Untold," which is set to be released under the New York label Adhyaropa Records. The album, entirely original compositions, is built around the relationship between composition and improvisational spontaneity. Inspirations from the realms of literature, cinema, and various musical traditions are woven into a personal musical language. Its title, "Stories Untold," expresses the tension between the structured and the spontaneous, and between the musical and non-musical. Joining the trio is saxophonist Amit Friedman, one of the prominent creators in Israeli jazz and the 2021 Prime Minister's Prize for Composers winner. Kolko and Friedman have collaborated over the years in performances in Israel and festivals around the world, and will now bring the new music from "Stories Untold" to the stage for the first time, ahead of the album's release.
