Brazilian Night

Yotam Silberstein, guitarist, composer, and one of the most prominent Israeli jazz exports worldwide, is visiting from New York this summer. We are thrilled to host him at Shablul for a festive evening under the theme: Brazilian Night. This show was part of a series we held in honor of Silberstein at Shablul a year ago, which was sold out and left the audience eager for more. Silberstein, praised by critics and audiences for his unique guitar sound, combines bebop and blues in his musical expression alongside deep influences from South American, North African, and Middle Eastern folklore. His mature compositions and delicate interpretations have made him one of the most fascinating and sought-after voices on the international jazz scene.

Joining him for this performance are Brazilian singer and percussionist Joca Perpignan and pianist Roy Ben Sira - two of the most active and versatile musicians in the Israeli jazz and world music scene. The trio of virtuosos will deliver a rich musical evening full of soul, rhythm, and nostalgia, bringing the sounds, colors, and heart of Brazil to the stage. The show will blend beloved classics from the Brazilian canon: from Pixinguinha to Antonio Carlos Jobim, with original compositions inspired by the rich musical languages of Choro, Samba, and Bossa Nova.

More about Yotam Silberstein: As a band leader, Yotam has released ten albums featuring top musicians like Carlos Aguirre, Toninho Horta, Roy Hargrove, Paquito D'Rivera, and more. On his latest album, "Standards" from 2023, jazz giants John Patitucci, Billy Hart, and George Coleman are playing. The 11th album he recently recorded is a duet with the one and only Ron Carter.

Yotam has performed with his ensembles worldwide in the most prestigious festivals and venues, including the Tokyo, Umbria, and North Sea Jazz Festivals, as well as the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, and more. He is a member of John Patitucci's trio, has performed extensively with legendary Brazilian singer-songwriter Ivan Lins, played on significant albums by Monty Alexander, David Sanborn, and Marcus Miller, and participated in ensembles with jazz greats such as George Coleman, Charles McPherson, Jimmy Heath, James Moody, and others.
