Experience the Magic of Analog Imagery - Without a Camera
Join a unique workshop where we will delve into the world of photograms—one of the earliest and most liberating techniques in analog photography. This is your chance to engage in manual printing in a darkroom, learn basic principles of composition, light, and shadow, and create images from scratch—directly on photographic paper, without using a camera.
The photogram is one of the first photography techniques ever created (even before the invention of the camera!). As early as the 19th century, pioneers like William Henry Fox Talbot and Anna Atkins created direct images on photographic paper by exposing objects to light.
From then until today, the photogram continues to provide an open creative space for exploring imagery, material, form, and light—directly, physically, and freely.
What does the workshop include?
- Create imagery you love using photographic papers, gels, objects, and transparent images, and print them in a darkroom with the guidance of Miki and Idan, the workshop facilitators!
- *The working time in the workshop varies from person to person and is not fixed.
- **Please wait about half an hour after developing in the darkroom for the image to dry.
The workshop does not require prior knowledge and is suitable for anyone who wants to delve into the analog process and discover a free, intuitive, and material approach to darkroom work.
About Alata:
A darkroom and alternative community of creators, photographers, and artists looking to return to tangible and manual processes. The community was founded by a group of young artists and photographers from Tel Aviv, operating out of a desire to keep analog photography alive as a contemporary artistic and communal expression.
