Between Times and Places - Summer Music Workshop with Yoav Ne'eman for Crawling to One and a Half Year Olds

### Workshop Details

In the workshop, we will explore various rich musical sources for toddlers and incorporate content that engages in direct dialogue with the world of the little ones: body songs, animals, trips by sea, air, and land. Each session will shine a spotlight on topics, periods, and places that shape the musical world of toddlers and their parents.

During this summer period, each session will emphasize content related to the Mediterranean summer: seasonal fruits, the beach, calm or stormy waves, and our marine animal friends.

The sessions will include:

- **100 First Songs and Folk Creations:** Many of us grew up with the book "100 First Songs," and today's toddlers continue to grow with this collection, despite the variety of content available today. These "simple" contents hold the essence of the connection between children's songs and newborns. We will engage in partner dances, sing "Cake Cake," soar with the song "Come Down to Us, Airplane," sail with "Ship," and sit together "On the Riverbank."

In this meeting, we will naturally incorporate musical instruments. For instance, with castanets, we will mimic the sound of rain falling from the sky and tick the "Ben-Khal clock" with tambourines, playing "The Orchestra is Coming."

- **Rhythm Workshop:** We will play together in a small drumming circle. Using miniature darbukas, we will drum strong versus soft, fast versus slow, forming a real orchestra. We will ask questions and answer with music: "I play – what do you play?" "Behind the mountain – one, two, three!" "Two friends went along the way – bim bam boom!"

By shaking handles, we will sing songs and rhymes and fly high like butterflies. We'll discover where we can drum – on the floor, the hands, above the head, the tummy, or maybe even the shoulders.

**Habubi the Puppet** will ask us to talk about the animals we love most in the world and sing animal songs. For example, we’ll hop with the green frog using croaking instruments, play the mouse's song with rattles, and gallop, of course, on horses. We won’t forget our friends from the sea, and with scarves, sing songs about waves, fish, and the sea, sailing together in the waters of Eilat Bay. With an "Ocean Drum" (an instrument simulating wave sounds), we'll sing sailor songs and venture into the great sea.

We will also address world music and journey together around the world. With maracas, we’ll play songs inspired by South America and those translated from Portuguese ("Come to Rio," "Help Me Help"). Habubi the Puppet will introduce us to tropical fruits and vegetables. With the ukulele and bass guitar, we will touch the world of reggae. We’ll play Bob Marley’s songs and sing "Banana Bender" and "The Lemon Tree" (Fresh Lemon).

With darbukas, we will sing a Japanese children's song about a big and small drum. We’ll listen and experiment with the African drum (djembe), playing tunes like "Hakuna Matata," "Elephant Song" from The Jungle Book, and "The Lion's Song" from The Lion King. With castanets, we’ll play flamenco music. Finally, we will head to the farm in the United States with country songs in Hebrew and English.

Yoav Ne'eman, a music workshop facilitator for toddlers (harmonica and guitar with Yoav). Specializes in early childhood music education (Levinsky College of Education).

**Note:** It is not possible to bring younger or older siblings.

### Workshop Schedule

The workshop will be held over 2 sessions on Wednesdays, 12.8 and 19.8. Registration is for the entire workshop; it is not possible to register for a single session.
