A widowed flower seller, a retired womanizer, an aging DJ, a street cleaner, a man who has lost his memories... These are just a small part of the 99 men that filmmaker Hadas Neuman has been documenting for the past two years. She wanders around the neighborhood in Givatayim, allowing herself to get lost among the older men, and is in fact searching for one man in particular - her father, a resident of the neighborhood, whom she never knew.
The acquaintance with the men of her father's age, who open their hearts, their apartments, and the plots of their lives to her, reveals to Hadas something about local patriarchy, loneliness, regret, love, compassion, and fatherhood.
In a hybrid performance that moves between film and stage, between a dramatic and humorous journey, Hadas seeks to deal with a constant absence. An absence that stands out now, as Hadas has been displaced from her home in the south for almost a year, having changed six residences since that Saturday.
On an almost empty stage, a solitary walker stands under a beam of light. She takes one step and gets on it. She begins to walk, and for about an hour, she does not stop. Behind her is a large wall onto which the faces of the men she captured on camera are projected. She talks to them, with them, and to us, receiving in the present a second chance to converse with the past.
By combining video projection, live narration, and performative actions, Hadas takes the audience on a journey through the paths of her life in an attempt to find, ultimately, the 100th man.
